WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION

Applicants must be safe and competent drivers, ideally having held a manual driving licence for at least five years. Drivers need to show a good driving knowledge of SW & Central London including the surrounding airports without the use of SatNavs. The ability to operate a Smartphone including navigations software is an advantage. They also need to be based within a 10 mile radius of Wimbledon during the period of the contract. All drivers must be able to drive manual and automatic vehicles. This is a demanding role with a large team of drivers who work under the guidance and direction of our management team. You must have good communication skills and a professional approach to your work. Good map reading skills are vital for this job. Confidentiality and diplomacy are essential as is the ability to quickly respond to changes in instructions.



All drivers will be trained in the use of the hands-free radio system in the vehicles and how to correctly fit infant/child seats.

Drivers generally have to work a daily shift system including weekends. Two drivers share the same vehicle and work alternating early and late shifts. Successful applicants will be advised of their shift patterns and times, currently the transport service operates from 7.00am to 12.30am. Where possible shift times will be adhered to; however we do require a degree of flexibility and reserve the right to change the shift times if necessary. The contracts previously offered were normally for 15 or 23 days and the current rate of pay is £10.70 per hour.

Compulsory Training Programme (2 days)

New drivers must attend a compulsory two-day training programme prior to the Championships. We cannot employ anyone who does not attend the training days allocated.

Lectures include: Operational procedures/Safety issues/ Accident and emergency procedures.
Practical includes: Driver Protocol / Vehicle familiarisation / Driving & Roadskills / Route knowledge / Hands Free Radio Instruction / Fuelling & Vehicle Cleaning procedures / fitting of infant/child seats.

Interviews for this position are held each year in Spring. Please note two written references are required prior to the interview; one must be from your current/previous employer and the other given in a professional capacity eg lawyer, doctor, accountant etc who has known you for a number of years.
